Life Lessons About Living With Regrets In Life

Today my life lesson is about living with regrets in life :

“Never regret. If it’s good, it’s wonderful. If it’s bad, it’s experience.” Victoria Holt

Isn’t that life quote by British author Victoria Holt insightful? It is inevitable; we all make mistakes every now and then in our lives. In other words, we have to acknowledge any mistake or misstep we may have made. We have to come to terms or accept it and move on. Accept the bad  or mistakes as  merely life experiences or life lessons.

Living With Regrets In Life

I have learned that we have to put regrets in the past and live our life forward. As what author  Dr. John Izzo says in his book “The Five Secrets You Must Discover Before You Die“, the best way to live without regret,  is to take chances, pursue those dreams, and accept the failure that might be your way. Rather than be crushed by failure, learn from it.

As Winston Churchill said, “All men make mistakes, but only wise men learn from their mistakes.”  Everything happens for a reason. Find out and learn from your mistakes.  Turn your regrets into life lessons instead.

Having bad feelings, worries or self-doubt, together with living with regrets is one of those mental clutter which cloak up in our mind, causing getting us upset and stress out.

The best way to get rid of this mental mess is to process your thoughts, rather than letting them occupying in your brain.

The first method is acknowledge it and tell yourself that there is nothing you can do about it. Mentally tell yourself if it comes back to haunt you again, you will tell yourself, it is over and there is nothing you can do or undo. That’s it. Full stop!

I know many of you will argue that it is easier said than done. But it can work. The acknowledging and mental preparation of nothing-you-can-do-it’s-over are the two factors which are going to block regrets from harassing you again and again.

The next method is talk to someone about it. Spill it out as much as you can. Or you can also talk to yourself or to anything aloud in private. You may appear insane, but it is effective. The act of talking is the where you let go of your regret, rather than letting it fester in your mind.

The third way to handle regret is go for a walk or do some other physical things to get yourself occupied. The time together with the activity, both will put your regret at bay. [image]
