Wisdom From Life Lessons

I believe we all acquired wisdom from life lessons.

SOME of you may argue that being wise has nothing to do with age. I agree that it isn’t necessarily or intrinsically a product of old age. But personally, I find life experiences and emotional maturity play a major part in cultivating wisdom.

One can acquire wisdom from life lessons and experience

If it is not for my vast life experience, I would not have a clearer view of human nature and the human predicament. I would not have the emotional resiliency and the ability to cope in times of adversity.

I have learned and also unlearned many life lessons over the years. Without doubt, experience is still the best teacher. It is my real life experience that has enabled me to make better judgment. Now I see things in a wider and wiser perspective. As a result, I get to know and understand myself better. To quote Austrian writer Marie Ebner-Eschenbach, “In youth we learn; in age we understand.”

Being wise is having the ability to discern what is true, right, or lasting. Besides, it is not only knowing, doing and saying the right things, but at the right time too. In addition, one knows when to look and also overlook as well. As I have just mentioned above, it is because of my life lessons that I have learned to be sagacious. I wouldn’t have viewed and lived life differently or rather wisely, if not for the so-called School of Hard Knocks. Now I dare to say, I can make wiser decisions.

For instance, these days I don’t waste time arguing with people over that popular question: “What is the meaning of life?” You find that the further you probe, the deeper the mystery and it leads you into the abyss of confusion. Instead of wasting time brooding about this perplexing question, I rather concentrate on enjoying living my life to the fullest.

The wise accepts that life is never going to be fair or perfect. Every life road has its puddle. You are sure to get yourself wet every now and then. But with life experience, we have better skills to navigate the bumps and lumps along the way. It is a matter of how one responds to the ups and downs of life. Life doesn’t get simpler or easier, it is just that we learn to manage it better. That’s all.

From time to time, your life is going to throw you a curved ball. You just got to go on hitting it. If you miss it, do not get frustrated, discouraged, defeated, upset or depressed. It is just a temporary setback. It is not the end of the game.

Most of the time we wise up is when run into a wall of woe and adversity. We learn our wisest life lessons when things get rough and tough. For example, when one falls ill, then only he or she realizes the importance of taking care of their health.

We don’t need to trek off to the Himalayas or some remote lofty mountains to seek for wisdom. It can only be acquired or learned from what we know from real life experience. We can find nuggets of wisdom from life lessons.
