Your life is based on what captures in your brain. So it is important to pay attention to what and how you think.
What I am saying is you have to be fully conscious and aware to select what you pay attention to. And also to choose how you create meaning from experience.
The Importance Of Paying Attention
Our attention is the only thing that can connect us with what’s happening right now. It is the source of all insight, learning, communication, connection with others, beliefs, and emotions in our lives.
I know it is rather difficult to be fully aware and recognize our way or pattern of giving attention. Because the pattern is so closely connected to our brain’s wiring since birth.
Our mind’s attention recycles familiar thoughts from our past experiences. That causes us to overlook most of what is happening around us.
The other problem is when we start thinking we get distracted from observing what is happening in real time. The more we think the less attention we have.
We need to pay special focus on our way or pattern of attention. That includes knowing what your mind is thinking and sensing the feelings and emotions you are experiencing, simultaneously.
In other words, we must consciously or mindfully rewire our brain to do this.
Be A Good Listener
The first thing to do is be a good listener. Begin by listening to people attentively. Over time, we will discover more new enriching ideas.
At any given time, the only true certainty in life is our ability to pay attention.
Most, if not all meditation techniques is based on the concept of consciously focusing our attention, in order to be aware of the present moment.
Remember you become what you pay attention to.
