So what do you think of daily positive affirmations? Can they really work?
I know it sounds silly or absurd to many of you. By just repeating positive statements aloud or silently to oneself, it can change one’s life.
Well, if it is that simple, then life should be wonderful then. We don’t need to seek help from psychiatrists or therapists.
You see, it is because many books and websites claim that, just by saying daily positive affirmations to yourself, you can achieve whatever you want.
You can be rich, famous and happy all your life. They all make it sounds as if it is so simple and easy.
Their overly simplistic sweeping statement which make daily positive affirmations the butt of jokes of many.
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy
Well, actually positive affirmation is a technique that comes out of cognitive-behavioral therapy also known as CBT.
Cognitive-behavioral therapy is based on the idea that our thoughts determine our feelings and behaviors, and not external things, like people, situations and events.
In other words, we can change the way we think to feel/act better even if the situation does not change.
In fact we have been engaging in daily affirmations all these times. It is basically self-talking.
Our mind is always in a constant state of thinking. There is a constant self-talking activity going on.
When we say or think positive affirmations to ourselves, we are feeding our mind with positive thoughts.
Then our subconscious mind will absorb and regard often-repeated positive thoughts, statements or self-talk as commands.
And over time, you gradually begin to believe in the affirmation, and the statements will become just part of who you are.
Our subconscious mind does not make distinctions between negative and positive thoughts.
It treats them both in the same way. A statement that is often repeated, affects the subconscious mind, which then uses it power to find ways to make it come true.
Our often repeated thoughts and words will affect our action, and thus shape our character and our life; be they constructive or destructive.
Repeating daily positive affirmations is a powerful mental programming technique.
But because it is not well understood by many, that is why the act of positive affirmations sounds weird and preposterous.
How To Do Daily Positive Affirmations
Here are six basic guidelines when repeating daily positive affirmations:
1. Say your positive affirmations in the present tense.
2. Use strong words, describing precisely what you really want to achieve.
3. Keep them short and specific . Tell your mind exactly what you want.
4. Say them to yourself with full awareness or conscious and with feelings. You got to believe what what you are saying is already true. This is the most crucial part in positive affirmations.
5. You can repeat your positive affirmations at any time you feel like it. Or you can set a specific time, for instance each day before you go to bed or you wake up in the morning.
6. In positive affirmations, you may choose to repeat affirmations aloud, or just mentally.
Well, personally what do you think? Can daily positive affirmations work?
