For the regular followers of this blog, you know that this site used to be called “Important Life Lessons”.
Recently it has been revamped and now it is known as “I Just Hold Up The Light“. And the tagline is: “You Choose Your Own Life Path.”
Diogenes And His Lantern
Diogenes is said to wandered around ancient Greece in broad daylight, carrying a lit lantern; when asked what he was doing, he would answer, “I am just looking for an honest man.”
But then I leave it to you to make your decision. You don’t have to agree or follow my insights and views.
In fact, I strongly encourage one to be true to oneself. To live life as authentic as possible.
Authenticity is about being genuine and real. We must take into consideration about our strengths and weaknesses.
We must be aware and accept them. They are accountable.
They are connected to our values and desires. Our actions must be consistent with those qualities. Then only we are true to ourselves.
Anyway, here is selection of Diogenes cynic quotes:
“We have two ears and one tongue so that we would listen more and talk less.”
“The foundation of every state is the education of its youth.”
“Man is the most intelligent of the animals — and the most silly.”
“He has the most who is most content with the least”
“It takes a wise man to discover a wise man”
“Diogenes, when asked from what country he came, replied, “I am a citizen of the world.”
“I know nothing, except the fact of my ignorance.”
“As a matter of self-preservation, a man needs good friends or ardent enemies, for the former instruct him and the latter take him to task.”
“Most men are within a finger’s breadth of being mad.”
“A man once asked Diogenes what was the proper time for supper, and he made answer, “If you are a rich man, whenever you please; and if you are a poor man, whenever you can”
“No man is hurt but by himself.”
“Wise kings generally have wise counselors; and he must be a wise man himself who is capable of distinguishing one.”
“Calumny is only the noise of madmen.”
“All things are the property of the wise.”
“Blushing is the color of virtue.”
“A friend is one soul abiding in two bodies.”
“It’s not I am mad, it is only that my head is different from yours.”
