We all can learn a lot of important life lessons from “A Christmas Carol”. That evergreen inspiring story written by Charles Dickens back in the 1843. A motivational story filled with hope and love, with the promise of a new beginning or spiritual rebirth, which is still relevant today.
Mr Scooge particularly hates Christmas, as he says it only find himself a year older and not an hour richer. Then one night before Christmas, the ghost of his ex-partner Jacob Marley who died seven Christmas Eves ago, came to visit him.
Just like Mr Scrooge, the late Marley was also a selfish miser, who is now suffering the consequences of his misdeed in the afterlife. Marley comes back to help Scrooge avoid the same fate, as he is now in. He tells Scrooge that he will be haunted by three spirits: the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future.
There is one powerful scene where the ghost of the Christmas brings Scrooge to witness his own funeral, where no one even attended it.
After being visited by these three ghosts and witnessing scenes from his life, Scrooge wakes up with a new lease of life. He has becomes a different man overnight. He now see life with a new perspective on life and realizes the importance of people around him in his life.
The story has many strong moral messages like greed, poverty, love, kindness, and compassion for all humanity, family unity, be thankful and also it shows that people can change.
One of the life lessons from Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” is we there will always be poor people or the less fortunate with us, who need our help.
The next important life lesson which I learned from the story is we are capable of change if we really want to just like that selfish penny-pinching Mr Scrooge.
In the story, even though Tiny Tim comes from a poor family, yet he appreciates the simple warmth and wealth of just being around loved ones. It is trying to tell us that we should be grateful for what we have now.
At the end of the story, Dickens was telling us that it’s not good enough just to donate money, but one needs to get involved.
