“I have often regretted my speech, but never my silence.” – Publius
Talking about inspiring words and how they can change your life, the other day I was reading this book by Hal Urban called “Positive Words, Powerful Results: Simple Ways To Honor, Affirm, and Celebrate Life“.
I agreed with most of the favorable reviews. It is a simple and well-written book by the same author of the classic “Life’s Greatest Lesson: 20 Things That Matter“.
Inspiring Words That Can Change Your Life
In this book of positive words, writer Urban shows us the choices we can make each day with the use language as a positive force in our daily lives, or use it to bring ourselves and also others down with us.
He is not not just talking about ‘positive thinking, but rather the power of positive language.
Both written and spoken words are powerful. They can trigger and engage emotion.
Mark Twain said the difference between the right word and the almost right word is “the difference between lightning and a lightning bug.”
For spoken words, the inflection and tone of the voice speak volumes.
I am sure agree that negative words can cause pain, sorrow or even depression. Whereas positive inspiring words can restore and uplift your spirit boost your confidence and fuel you with encouragement.
So, be careful with your choice of words. Watch what you say.
This is my favorite quotes and sort of my mantra:
Watch your thoughts, they become your words.
Watch your words; they become your actions.
Watch your actions; they become your habits.
Watch your habits; they become your character.
Watch your character for it will become your destiny.
I remember reading an article somewhere written by the very same Hal Urban, entitled “Positive Words, Powerful Results” , he suggests that:
– Words make us human,
– Words can change lives,
– Words can hurt and offend,
– Words come from the heart,
– Words are choices.
The win-win rewards of positive words:
He says that the win-win rewards of positive words are:
– Joyful words celebrate life,
– Affirming words inspire others – and ourselves,
– Loving words heal and strengthen relationships,
– Gracious words show respect and gratitude,
– Funny words make us laugh,
– Try to always have something good to say.
Change your words and they can change your life. Similarly change your questions and change your life. Mark my words.
